Powering Resilience and Economic Opportunity in Pacific Island Countries

Powering Resilience and Economic Opportunity in Pacific Island Countries explores how productive use of renewable energy (PURE) can help communities across the Pacific build resilience, strengthen local economies and reduce dependence on imported fuels and products. Drawing on six businesses supported by PREO across Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and the Solomon Islands, the report shows renewable energy being put to practical use across food production, fisheries, healthcare, water security and local processing.

Through these real-world examples, the report looks beyond energy access alone to examine what helps locally led solutions succeed and grow. It highlights the importance of trusted local partnerships and community ownership, the impact targeted funding can achieve in small island economies, and the potential for proven business models to attract further investment and be adapted across other island communities. Together, the case studies demonstrate how renewable energy can become an enabler of stronger livelihoods, essential services and long-term economic resilience.
