Supporting efficient use of energy for better rural health outcomes.

Afya Research Africa is installing solar energy systems across its network of rural medical centres (Ubuntu-Afya Kiosks) and linked public health facilities to support the implementation of its in-house digital health information management system (STONE) and better clinical operations.

STONE addresses broken health records and data systems, healthcare access challenges, client loss to follow up, clinical protocol non-compliance, and accountability issues.

This intervention has also an effect on clinical operations, supporting longer opening hours, better diagnostic capacity, and greater ability to cater for clinical emergencies.
